The Penniless Writer: A Blog by Daniel Hietala

I am a human writer (weird having to say that since I don’t use AI) who is trying to break into the traditional publishing industry. And while I am not penniless in terms of financial means, I make no money from my writing. To be more specific, the books I have self-published cost me far more money to publish (formatting, editing, cover design, etc.) than I have every made from sales. I’m trying to change all that now that I have hit mid-life. I’m trying everything that I’ve learned as a writer, professional, and educator to finally break my personal glass ceiling: becoming a published and paid author!
